I do hope everyone has enjoyed their holiday season following the fantastic holiday party we had in December. Thank you for the efforts of everyone involved, including our Treasure, Steve, and Activities Officer, Tammy. A special shout out to Esther for volunteering to help as well!
We had a wonderful year of participation in organised rides last year, and I would like to encourage you all for 100% participation in 2023. We far exceeded our Ride 365 goal of 250,000 miles ... it really was an awesome effort!

Second Sunday Suppers . . . Starting in February I plan on bringing back the dinners we used to have on the weekends. After speaking to many of the members, during the week does not work for the majority of us. however, we will have an occasional one during the week .. So I’m going to put them on the calendar as “Second Sunday suppers”. We will not be planning any until February.
Suggestions Appreciated . . . I would appreciate any suggestions from our members to suggest their favorite restaurants (in all different areas. ) . Also any activity suggestions would be very much appreciated. Please remember to RSVP.
Happy Holidays,
Tammy B.

Happy New Year!
Welcome to January and another year of riding and fellowship!
Before we get into 2023, let’s put a bow on 2022. I’d like to thank all the Road Captains for a great year of leading. I’d also like to thank YOU for ALL the pictures you submitted this year on FB and via email, as I was able to create a fun video of some of the highlights of 2022 for ESHOG. If you have a spare 12 minutes, put the video on your PC or stream it to your TV, grab your favorite beverage and enjoy. After watching this, I’m pumped to get back out on the road!
Here is the video link, named "Eastside HOG 2022 Year End Video". This set as unlisted (not public) on YouTube for ESHOG.
Now for 2023:
I’m working on the monthly D’s, I’ve finalized the 5D’s of Summer, and working on the other four, for the total of 9D’s of summer again (!) for the Road Warriors. We live in a beautiful state, so let’s get out and ride it!
The January D: It’s not hard to figure out it will be at the Eastside HD dealership again - and why are we doing that? We KICKED it in 2022 with Ride 365 and we want to do that again, so please ride to the dealer and register your beginning mileage. HD is really behind us on this program! We should also take this time to fill out the 2023 membership forms too.

Membership Forms
Everyone needs to complete a 2023 Membership Form.
Our chapter must obtain a current Chapter Membership Enrollment form from you to maintain your active status in our Chapter. Your national membership must be current prior to sending in your form. If you are not sure when your membership expires, or can’t remember your National Member ID, you can log into the National HOG site to obtain it.
SIGN the Membership Form (can't be electronic signature, must be hand signed original) Please complete the form, bring it with you or mail your form to the dealership at: Eastside HOG, C/O Eastside Harley Davidson, 2350 136th PL NE Bellevue, WA 98005 OR drop the form at the Dealership in our drop box at the reception desk. If you have questions, please contact me at [email protected]
P.S. The ride on New Year’s Day at 10:00am means we’re going to need to get forms done for those who show up.
Kickoff Saturday on January 7
Don’t miss our Kickoff Saturday on January 7, you can also join the chapter off the web page by downloading the form and mailing it in. We need to have a hard copy with your signature on the file for Harley-Davidson. This is a requirement to have a new updated form every year. Most of you know by now, but we have a lot of new members.
Spotlight on Members:
We’d like to spotlight our new members (Like the below) more this year in the Hog Call. I’d love to get a picture of you and your bike and maybe a sentence or two of what you’ve enjoyed about the chapter so far, or maybe your favorite ride or fun fact about yourself? If you are an “oldbe”, we would like to get a pic of you too along with a blurb about yourself you would like to share with the chapter.
Thank You All,
Lanelle B.

I got my bike in June, but I didn't get a chance to ride with the chapter. I live in Wenatchee and I hope to be able to ride with the chapter this next year. I was able to put 4800 miles on it before riding season was over, and I am planning on doing a 10-day trip to Colorado in July. I look forward to riding with the ESHOG chapter this next year. This picture was taken on an 8-day Oregon trip this year in July.

When I purchased my first Harley Davidson motorcycle. There are two things I have really enjoyed about the chapter. First, is the folks I have met at dinners and when volunteering. Many diverse backgrounds with a love of motorcycles and riding as the common element. I am also in admiration of Ken and the Road Captain team, and their ability to get large groups of folks from point A to point B safely. This is harder than it looks, and the team does it well. My favorite ride is the one that I am on. Any time on a motorcycle beats time behind a desk, no question! As far as rides that I have done, I am having a hard time choosing between Beartooth Pass on a clear and sunny day, or just about anywhere on the Dempster Highway in good weather. Between the scenery and the people that you meet, those roads are definitely ones to try out if you have not done so yet.

It's great to have joined the Eastside Hog Chapter! I've been a Hog member since I got my first Harley in Virginia in Dec. 2001 ('02 Fatboy) and rode with the local Hog chapter back east. I moved to Redmond in 2009 and have been riding with a few friends over the years but missed being part of Hog so the timing is great. I've still got that Fatboy, but my daily ride is a '21 Ultra. I love riding in the mountains and do at least one long ride every summer. Sturgis is a favorite ride, but I've also ridden all over Canada, OR, CA, NV, AZ, UT, ID, WY, MT, and SD too. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Look Through the Windshield!
(Leave the Past in the Rearview Mirror)
It’s a New Year! 2023, if you can believe it. I remember as a kid, I was a huge Science Fiction fan (ok – I’m still a bit of a nerd). Isaac Asimov was my favorite, but there was CS Lewis, Arthur C. Clark, Frank Herbert, Robert Heinlein – and so many more. When these authors were writing about the 2020’s back in the 1940’s-1960’s, 2023 was such a far-off distant future. I’d calculate what my age would be in that time and dreaming of robots, flying cars, space travel, and the promised “utopia” (or was it “dystopia”?) Now I’m there! Where’s my flying car? But I digress from the topic at hand.
The turning of a year always evokes a resetting of goals, new resolutions, and dreams of a fresh start. We are encouraged to set aside the previous year’s challenges and setbacks and look forward to the year to come. I rather like this annual “reset”. What is the point of dwelling on the past? It only gets in the way of the road ahead and potentially causing us to steer off course for what is ahead.
The Apostle Paul seems to agree:
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV)
How do we view this through the eyes of a HOG Member? Focus on the road ahead. Look through the windscreen (unless you’re Tony and tough enough to ride across the US and back without one 😊). It’s good to occasionally look in the mirrors. The mirrors certainly serve an important purpose (especially if someone is coming up behind you at 90 mph and they have those dreaded blue lights a flashing).
But what happens when you keep your eyes only on what’s behind you? You take your eyes off the road. Take Paul’s advice. Forget what is behind you and strain toward what is ahead. After all, what’s behind you is, well… behind you. The same applies to the things in last year’s past. Last year is over. The things that happened last year, belong to last year. But the things ahead, belong to you and me. So, let’s keep our eyes and our hearts focused on the road ahead. The year to come. The things in our windscreens, not the things in our rearview mirrors.
Happy New Year!
