| | Calendar - Monthly D. - 2024 D's - Web - FB Meetings are held at Eastside Harley-Davidson on the last Saturday of the Month. Social starts at 9:00am,
Meeting at 9:30am. |
| | | | So far this summer we've had some awesome riding conditions with fine weather, and it's not been too hot.
At the June meeting I handed out Eastside chapter mileage challenge coins, as designed by our editor Kenny V, awarded for chapter Ride365 participation. These challenge coins have been designed to represent the Eastside, with artistic depictions of a motorcycle riding on the 520 bridge and a volcanic mountain in the distance.
The mileage challenge coins are being awarded for 2023 as the HOG Ride365 audit was recently completed. There are three coins, representing 1,000 miles, 5,000 miles, and 10,000 miles, which will are engraved with the year of participation. Each member achieving those mileage levels will be awarded one of the challenge coins. Please see me at the next meeting if you have not yet collected yours.
As always, if you have any questions about joining the group or anything HOG related, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]. I'm always here to lend a hand and make sure your ride with us is good as gold!

GET YOUR MILES IN!
Summer riding season is in full swing. While you are out there, please swing by the dealership and get your miles submitted for the Ride 365 Chapter Ride totals. If you have not started logging miles this year, there is no better time than now to get started! In September, I will reach out to members who have done their initial mile submission, but have not done a second one. One of the mileage contests is the average miles for the chapter. A single mileage submission adds a “0” into our average calculation. Even if you have not done a lot of miles so far, please get that second reading turned in!
Forms are on line (https://hogscan.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/5389/s3fs-public/shared/Documents/HOG%20Mileage%20Form%20Eastside.pdf), or at the dealership!
If you have
any questions, please contact [email protected],
or any of your board members.

Ride Safe and watch out for everything!
Be visible:
1. Remember that motorists often have trouble seeing motorcycles. 2. Make sure your headlight works and is on day and night. 3. Use reflective strips or decals on your clothing and on your motorcycle. 4. Avoid riding in the blind spots of cars and trucks. 5. If possible, flash your brake light when you are slowing down and before stopping. 6. Have an escape route in case a motorist doesn’t see you and violates your right-of-way.

| | How many times in your life have you found yourself in a situation that you never planned – or wanted to be in? Maybe a job you never wanted. A city you never thought you’d live in. Circumstances you never saw yourself navigating. Or maybe not being in a situation you had planned on being in. The job promotion you were promised just never panned out. A vacation you planned on taking was ultimately canceled due to circumstances beyond your control. I’ve been there. Many times. I won’t bore you with my personal examples. Ok. Maybe just one. |
| | In 1999/2000, we had our dream house built. On a half-acre lot in Bothell, we contracted Royal Crest Homes to build a 2670 sq. ft. two story house. All the bells and whistles. Three car garage, bonus room, main floor office, big, beautiful kitchen – the works. We absolutely loved this place. In town yet secluded and on a private drive. A home we planned on living in for years and years to come. We would raise our girls there (our two youngest were born while we were in that home). Then 9/11 happened. I was working for Dell, on the Boeing account. Airlines stopped buying planes, so Boeing stopped buying computers. I lost my job. I picked up as much temporary work as I could, but it wasn’t enough. After about 2 ½ years of this, the well dried up and we had to sell the house. It broke our hearts. One of the most difficult things we have ever been through. Dreams were dashed. Plans were scrambled. But God was not taken by surprise by any of this. He had other plans for us.
There is verse out of the book of Jeremiah that has always provided comfort to my wife and I through these kinds of circumstances. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
The children of Israel had been taken into exile by Nebuchadnezzar and were all but hopeless. They saw no future. But the Prophet Jeremiah sent them a letter with the following instructions from God: This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Jeremiah 29:4-7 (NIV)
In other words, keep on keeping on. Live life. Don’t let your circumstances take you out of the game. God always has a plan for your life. He certainly did for us. It was uncomfortable. Times were tough. I felt trapped, inadequate, unsuccessful. But HE had plans I could not see at the time. It was our job to trust Him.
The day we closed the sale of our dream home, I got a call from a friend. “Kerry – come to Quinton Cardiology tomorrow morning for an interview. I have a position for you.” The rest, as they say, is history.
I am certain that if it weren't for these seemingly untenable circumstances, I would not be standing before you today. I would never have chosen to walk the path I walked. But He had plans for me. Plans to give me hope and a future. A future I would never have imagined.
Kerry S. "Chaplain"
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes…”
Keeping the chapter on the straight and narrow.

| | | | Two things that are frowned upon in most all HOG chapters around the world are religion and politics. Probably the two reasons most wars have been fought, yet these two areas affect most aspects of our lives in one way or the other. This past weekend I reached my 72nd birthday, and now that I’ve had a few years under my belt, riding MC’s now for 50 years, and being a HOG officer for twenty years, I understand why the no Religion or Political discussions in HOG chapters.
It is said that birds of a feather flock together, and I think for the most part each of us gravitate towards those who “feel” the same way as ourselves. In today’s digital world those who create platforms take full advantage of the concept when desiring to spread their nets in the hopes of catching all the birds they can and increasing their bottom line.
I have always been a loan rider for the most part, group riding is fun, and the camaraderie and social aspect is to be desired. But I have put most of my riding miles over the years as a lone wolf. Perhaps it’s because I like to start and stop, change routes on the fly, drink coffee and pee a lot on my own ride. I was also raised to say yes sir and no mam, and your word and handshake meant something. Being of good character and treating others as you would want to be treated.
I have enjoyed being part of HOG chapters these past 20 years for several reasons, but the one that stands out the most is the relationships I’ve developed with others who don’t think the same way as I do. It is interesting to get to know someone who lives as it were on the other side of the fence. Having a degree of theology and being in full time ministry for the first half of my life gave me the opportunity to travel around the world (Perhaps the reason I enjoy watching Roberto’s travels online), and in doing so it gave me what I believe to be a better world perspective.
So, as things heat up in this year’s political arena, take a deep breadth before you share your opinion and third hand information by being a parrot and repeating “what you heard”. Be a lone rider, take care of yourself, ride your own ride, and look after those who ride with you, they may not be a bird of your own feather. Remember opinions are like another human body part that most keep covered, and everyone has one! (my 5yo grandson likes to say butt)
