It's as if a switch was flipped on the summer solstice with this spate of great riding weather on us. There's been so many organized rides that I've had difficulty keeping up with them all. Thank you, Roberto and Griff, for your contributions to the multi-day riding calendar. From all accounts these were very successful rides.

For my part, I am very fortunate to have participated in the Run for the Wall again this year alongside other Eastside HOG members including Mike T., Brian A., Steve B., and John C.

https://rftw.us

We have been making excellent progress towards our Ride 365 target. We are currently leading GNW HOG in the chapter challenge, so keep getting those mileage forms submitted! They are available in paper form at the dealership or a fillable form is available online from our website:
https://www.eshog.com/forms-and-documents

Patch Lady Diane will continue to be a regular at our meetings as we've been keeping her very busy!

There's still an opportunity to participate in the ½-mile long Edmonds 4th of July parade. Line up at 10:30am parade at noon with an early rib dinner for all that participate. Contact [email protected] and sign up.

I'm looking forward to the dealership dinner ride on July 6th. You can participate in the ride from the dealership KSU 6:30 pm or meet up at Pour House Pete's in Carnation.

I put together a fun VIDEO RECAP of our first six months of 2023. The year started slow (wet) but boy did it ramp up! Please check out the 7:55 YouTube video here, which is set to unlisted just for our HOG group. These are YOUR rides so keep riding and keep posting!! It's best seen on a PC screen or streamed to your TV!

June was awesome and now we are in full riding season! I hope many of you can get out to Whidbey Island in July for the D and explore the many side roads and views.

The summer’s 5 main Bridge Destinations just got easier! The alternate spot of Kettle Falls Bridge is Fort Spokane Bridge. It's not a switch, but an alternate location because of safety reasons of taking a picture at Kettle Falls.

Lastly, check out the July D, which shares a 120 anniversary with H-D!

Motorcycle Eyewear: Benefits and Requirements

Riding a motorcycle can be a thrilling and enjoyable experience, but it also comes with some risks and challenges. One of the most important aspects of motorcycle safety is protecting your eyes from the sun, wind, dust, debris, and insects that can impair your vision and cause injuries. That’s why wearing proper eyewear is essential for every motorcycle rider.

Benefits of Motorcycle Eyewear

Motorcycle eyewear can provide several benefits for your comfort, performance, and safety while riding. Some of the benefits are:

UV protection: Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can damage your eyes and increase the risk of cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye diseases. Motorcycle eyewear that blocks 99% or more of UVA and UVB rays can help prevent these problems and protect your eyes from sunburn and irritation.

Glare reduction: Glare from the sun, headlights, or reflective surfaces can make it hard to see the road and other vehicles. Motorcycle eyewear that has polarized lenses, anti-reflective coatings, or tinted colors can help reduce glare and improve contrast and clarity.

Debris prevention: Wind, dust, dirt, and insects can get into your eyes and cause discomfort, infection, or injury. Motorcycle eyewear that fits snugly around your eyes and has a wraparound design or side shields can help prevent these foreign objects from entering your eyes and affecting your vision.

Accident avoidance: Motorcycle eyewear can also help you avoid accidents by improving your visibility and awareness of your surroundings. Eyewear that has a wide field of view, high-definition lenses, or photochromic technology can help you see better in different light conditions and adapt to changing environments.

Requirements of Motorcycle Eyewear

Depending on where you live and ride, there may be different laws and regulations regarding motorcycle eyewear. Some states require all motorcycle riders to wear eye protection at all times, while others have partial or no laws. Some states also specify the type of eye protection that is acceptable, such as safety-rated glasses, goggles, or helmets with visors. You should check your state laws before riding a motorcycle and comply with the requirements.

Additionally, you should choose motorcycle eyewear that meets your personal needs and preferences. Some factors to consider are:

Prescription: If you need corrective lenses to see clearly, you should wear prescription motorcycle glasses or contact lenses while riding. You can also get prescription inserts for goggles or helmets with visors. You should avoid wearing regular glasses under goggles or helmets as they may not fit well or provide adequate protection.

Fit: Your motorcycle eyewear should fit comfortably and securely on your face without slipping or pinching. You should also make sure that your eyewear does not interfere with your helmet, ear plugs, or communication devices. You can look for eyewear that has adjustable straps, nose pads, or temples to ensure a proper fit.

Style: Your motorcycle eyewear should also suit your style and personality. You can choose from various colors, shapes, sizes, and designs of glasses, goggles, or helmets with visors. You can also look for eyewear that has special features such as Bluetooth connectivity, speakers, cameras, or GPS.

In short:

Motorcycle eyewear is more than just a fashion accessory. It is a vital piece of equipment that can enhance your riding experience and protect your eyes from harm. By choosing the right eyewear for your needs and following the law, you can enjoy the thrill of riding a motorcycle safely and comfortably.

We’ve all been there.

We’ve all done it. I certainly have. It’s a tense situation. There’s maybe a little conflict or disagreement. Your internal temperature is rising. Your blood pressure is elevated. Then comes the final straw. The person in front of you says something that just makes your blood boil (most likely someone you’d die for such as your spouse or partner, one of your children, or maybe your best friend). You can’t just let it go. You have to say something.

So, you react with some nasty retort. Hurtful words. Something you’d instantly like to reel back in. But there they are. Words you wished you’d never uttered, just hanging in the air. You see the other person’s countenance fall. Those words cut deep. They respond in kind, and this back-and-forth pattern continues until you’re both deeply hurt. If only you could start over. If only you could take it all back.

But you can’t.

What is the solution?

How can you and I handle these situations better? If you’re like me, you can’t just sit in silence when something like this is going on. What I need is wisdom. Need a shortcut to wisdom? I certainly do. We are in luck. Biblical scholars tell us that there are five “Books of Wisdom” (Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Psalms, and Song of Solomon). My favorite is the book of Proverbs.

Thankfully our scenario above is clearly addressed in one brief, but powerful verse. “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Quite a contrast.

With just a word or two, you can turn away wrath, or you can incite anger. With a gentle answer, the entire situation is diffused. The conflict is “turned away”. The hurt is never inflicted, and the relationship is restored. What will you choose? A gentle answer, or a harsh rebuke? The choice is yours. And so is the outcome. Choose the gentle answer and turn away wrath.
