| | | | | I love nothing more than cruising with our ESHOG chapter members and I must say, serving as the director has been an absolute ripper of a time! Whether you're a seasoned rider or a newbie, we welcome all with open arms and a cold one (after the ride is over). If you've got any questions about joining the pack or anything HOG-related, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]. I'm always here to lend a hand and make sure your ride with us is a bonza experience!
BTW: The March meeting has been reschedules for Saturday, March 23, to avoid the Easter Bunny weekend.
In the February meeting, I suggested keeping a laminated copy of the Membership Guide Cover on your bike. That's all you need to get your HOG national destination photos, rather than the whole magazine. As always, mileage forms are available in paper form at the dealership or a fillable form is available online from our website. We have now added a printable image of the membership guide cover: https://www.eshog.com/forms-and-documents
Finally, I'd like to congratulate our latest Member of the Year for 2023, Jason Reed. Your dedication to riding HOG miles is fantastic!

RIDE MOTORCYCLES ⋅ HAVE FUN |
| | | | | What a great turnout we had 44 out to the meeting and 23 went on the post meeting ride, then of that group 8 or 9 headed to get the monthly D.
We have 78 members that have renewed out of 143 that were current in 2023.
I’d like to put a reminder in my section as follows:
It’s March! Seems like we just rang in 2024 and wow, already in March with Easter just weeks away. That means Spring is right around the corner and more rides are being added to the calendar and we want YOU to be part of them. Which means this is another friendly reminder that it's time to renew your Chapter Membership.
Each year, we need a new updated Chapter Membership Enrollment Form and Release signed. No money involved, but it is a requirement for each HOG Chapter to have an up-to-date current membership form on file. You do need to be current with National HOG to join/stay current with the chapter.
If you have already renewed, thank you! We received another 17 renewals at the February Chapter meeting last week, so out of our 143 members in 2023, 78 of you have renewed. That means we have a wee little bit of work to do.
If you have not done so, for your convenience we've included the membership form below (I think there is already a link in what you post each month?). Print out, fill out and drop it in the mail, address below (I think the address is already listed?) Better yet, bring it with you to the next chapter meeting at the dealership, Saturday 3/30.
If each of you can, please renew it by the end of March. We are cleaning up the membership roster and our private members only Facebook page, so anyone who hasn't renewed will no longer have access and we don't want you to miss out!

| | | March Destination TAKE THE CHALLANGE
Welcome to your March Monthly D, folks! The Gilman Town Hall Museum. Today the building is owned by the city and leased to the Historical Society for use as a museum. Exhibits change often and feature the toys, tools, and treasures of Issaquah’s near and distant past. Regrettably, the museum is currently under renovation and not open for tours or entry. I'm told by the next-door neighbor that there’s an open-air jail cell on the back side of the building you can see from the alley. Take a photo of yourself, your bike, and the front of the building to be entered for a chance to win one of two $40 gift cards at this March's Chapter meeting on Saturday, 30 March 2024. No need to be present to win.
Post your photo on the ES HOG Facebook page or submit it via email to [email protected].
The address for the Gilman Town Hall Museum is: 165 SE Andrews St., Issaquah, WA 98027

| | | Slow Riding Skills Course Sunday April 28
Ok riders looking to improve your riding skills the time has come! I mentioned this in our January meeting, but we now have a date confirmed for the slow riding skills course.
Date: Sunday April 28, 2024
Time: Start time to be determined but plan on after 12 noon
Location: Everett, WA
Time Commitment: 4 hours including ride time to course and skills sections with breaks
Cost for 16 riders in class: $150 per person - $50 discount for the first ten riders that sign-up thanks to our ESHOG board. And you earn a $50 gift card from Harley after proof of course completion. Plus many motorcycle insurance companies give rate discounts for proof of course completion.
So, your true cost is at or under $50 for a 4-hour class! Cost for 10 riders in class: $240 per person minus the same discounts mentioned above. Last year we had 16 riders and need to get 16 riders to commit again this year for a discounted cost class cost of $2,400 or $150 per rider. |
| | Most motorcycle accidents occur at slow speeds. Additionally, most of our motorcycles weigh over 800 lbs. and are very challenging for one person to pick up. Improved Control and Safety: Mastering slow riding techniques enhances control and reduces the risk of accidents, especially in tight spaces and challenging conditions. Increased Confidence: Developing proficiency in slow riding boosts confidence, making riders feel more comfortable and capable in various riding situations.
Enhanced Maneuverability: Learning slow riding skills improves maneuverability, allowing riders to navigate through traffic, execute precise turns, and handle obstacles with greater ease and precision. We had many riders in our class last year that had over five years of riding experience and found the class extremely helpful for all the reasons mentioned above.
Please confirm soon at: [email protected] and I will follow-up with payment information etc..
We will need the participant's full name, address, WDL#, Date of Birth, and we can email them an invoice to pay the fee online. Class # 16577. Contact: Stacey 360-435-1600 S[email protected]

| | | | | | | | | When his hospice nurse asked if there was anything he’d like to do before the end, Norm had an answer. One last ride on a ferry, surrounded by bikes. A simple request that came to us through Norm’s best friend, Black Sheep and ES HOG member Dave Jordan. But for us, it was a call to duty. There wasn’t a second thought among us. This was going to happen, just as he asked. What we couldn’t have anticipated was the amazing response and the outpouring of love. I have known Norm for more than 30 years. Some of us have known him for a decade; others just a few years. Some of us here don’t know him at all. But he’s family to all of us just the same. He’s a biker. A HOG member. And he had been in ministry with us as a part of Black Sheep. Needless to say – Norm is well loved. And that came through as clear as the day was beautiful. Even the sunrise greeted us with beauty and a promise of an amazing day as we gathered to ride together toward the Edmonds/Kingston ferry.
|
| | | By the time we left Bothell for the ferry terminal, there were 15 bikes among us while Norm followed behind us in a cage with John Sahlberg. Behind Norm in another cage was his daughter Melissa and his niece. Arrangements had been made with the Ferry system ahead of time, allowing Norm and Melissa to load directly behind the bikes. Once we got there, three more bikes arrived, including Norm’s brother and a childhood friend, who told me he hadn’t seen Norm since grade school. Not only that, his friend Mary, who some of you might remember, walked on to the staging area to greet Norm and give him a hug. It was a very sweet moment. All in all, we had 18 bikes on the ferry!
|
| On the third Saturday of each month our Westsound Black Sheep chapter in Silverdale hosts a monthly breakfast at McCloud’s in Bremerton. The breakfast is well attended by their HOG chapter and other bikers in the Bremerton/Silverdale area. When I called their chapter president Kris Lundberg and told him about the ride for Norm, he immediately agreed to add us to the guest list. Not only that, Kris arranged for an additional 26 bikes to meet us in Kingston to ride to Bremerton with us. With an estimated 44 bikes and two cages all together, we headed to McCloud’s. The crowd of bikers there were waiting for us in the parking lot, cameras and phones at the ready. Cheers and applause could be heard over the impressive rumble. It was an amazing welcome for our beloved Norm.
|
| | I can’t begin to adequately thank those of you who took any part in this effort. Those who came and rode with us, those who quietly prayed for Norm, and those who continue to pray for Norm and keep him in your thoughts. Norm was beyond blessed by all this. When Dave first told our Black Sheep chapter about Norm’s request, we thought we might have the six of us on the ride, and maybe a couple more. But as I said earlier, we would never have anticipated the outpouring of love for a fellow biker that was demonstrated last Saturday. 44 bikes. 2 cages. An accommodating ferry system. And over 80 people at the breakfast. Thank you for loving on Norm.
I’ll close with this. Jesus had this amazing dialogue with his disciples:
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’” Matthew 25: 35-40 (ESV)
