You have until Friday, 22 November, to get over to Tahoma National Cemetery. Get a photo of you, your motorcycle, and the sign at the front of TNC. Then, submit that photo on our ES HOG Facebook page or send it directly to me at [email protected]. You’ll then be entered in our raffle for one of two $40 H-D gift cards.
Ride Easy, Safe & Often! (You may thank those buried here for that right.)
For those who signed the proverbial blank check with their lives.
Tahoma National Cemetery (TNC) was established November 11, 1993, and opened for interments on October 1, 1997. The cemetery was dedicated on September 26, 1997. Several expansion projects have been completed since then. As of today, 75,154 Military Veterans and their dependents have been granted their final resting place at Tahoma. |
|
NOTE: *Effective 26th of October, all Mid-Month and End of Month Chapter rides will begin at 11:00AM. This timing is no longer season-dependent and may be changed at the discretion of the Ride Leader that day. Should the ride start earlier than 11:00AM, the Ride Leader will make this announcement on Facebook and on the ESHOG Calendar - with ample lead time. Of course, you'll want to be fueled up and bladder emptied for the Pre-Ride Safety Brief at 10:45AM. |

2024 Olympia Toy Run The Theme this year is “Aliens to the Rescue” Saturday, 7 December - KSU: 9:45am from Eastside H-D FaceButt Link
About the Run
Each year, the Olympia Toy Run hosts a motorcycle run through the streets of the City of Olympia in the beginning of December. We bring individuals together for a very worthy purpose: the joy of a child receiving a gift during the holiday season. All the toys collected from the motorcycle run and throughout the holiday season will be donated back to an agency we work together with, such as the Salvation Army Corps of Olympia through their Toy and Joy program, a program that helps to ensure hundreds of lower-income families in our community have an opportunity to have gifts for their children.
NOTE: John P. usually leads this ride and will once again if his bike rebuild is done in time! |

If you are still at zero, you should see an email from me. If you have moved out of the area, we have a program in place for you to turn in your miles over email. Forms (Click Here) are on line, or at the dealership in the stand over in the HOG area.. Jon Jaffe in Sales is who you turn them in to.
With the end of the year coming up, we have the Holiday Party and with that, the announcement of the mileage awards! Swing by the dealership and get your miles submitted in time to hit the HOG system before the holiday party! The sooner you get them in, the better!

Greetings, Eastside HOG Members,
As we ride into mid-November, it’s a good time to remind ourselves of a few key safety practices, especially with the shift to standard time, the early sunset, and the wet weather we’re well acquainted with here in the Pacific Northwest.
1. Check Your Tires – Your First Line of Defense
With the colder and wetter months, having quality, well-maintained tires is crucial. Wet roads and fallen leaves can make for slick surfaces, so take a few moments to inspect your tires for proper tread depth and pressure. Make sure your tires have enough grip to handle the increased hazards on the road. It’s a simple check that can make a big difference in handling, braking, and overall ride safety. I for one just purchased new tires last month and can speak 1st hand to how much better my bike handles!
2. Watch for Seasonal Road Hazards
Seattle’s rainy season brings more than just wet roads. Keep an eye out for fallen leaves, branches, and other debris that can make for slippery and unpredictable riding conditions. Be extra cautious on turns and at intersections, where leaves tend to gather and can hide slick spots.

|
3. Stay Visible as Daylight Fades
With darkness settling in earlier, it’s more important than ever to stay visible. Make sure all lights on your motorcycle are in working order, including headlights, taillights, and signals. Consider upgrading to brighter bulbs if needed, and always check that your lights are clean for maximum visibility.
Wear gear with reflective elements to increase your visibility to other drivers. Remember that drivers have a harder time spotting motorcycles in low light and rain, so anything that helps you stand out is an extra layer of protection.
4. Gear Up for Weather Protection
Seattle weather can change quickly, so be prepared with the right gear. Waterproof layers, gloves, and reflective vests or jackets are essential to keeping you warm, dry, and visible. Staying comfortable not only makes for a better ride but helps you stay alert and focused on the road.
5. Trauma Kits – A Must-Have for Safety
As a chapter, we’re committed to each other’s safety. Trauma kits are essential on any HOG-sponsored ride, and I want to remind everyone to make sure a kit is checked out if no one in the group has their own. Recently, we noticed that only two of the four kits ordered by Dave H remain at the dealership. If anyone has one in their side bag or accidentally took one home, please return it to the dealership or directly to me as soon as possible.
These trauma kits were purchased with our safety in mind, and they’re here to support each of us if an emergency ever arises. While we hope never to need them, preparedness is essential to looking out for each other.
As always, stay safe out there, and let’s keep enjoying the ride—rain or shine. |

Every ride is an adventure — make it a safe one! |

Veterans Day 2024Veterans Day 2024 has dawned as I write this article. I’m certain that we all, each one of us, have either served in the military, or have family members who have. Today is a day that we honor those who have served or are currently serving us in this way. Like you, I am forever indebted to this amazing group – clearly America’s best. So how can we best honor the sacrifice of millions and millions of Veterans? By living in Peace and Unity with one another.
We are all friends here. We ride together, break bread together, even take extended overnight excursions together. Yet we come from many different backgrounds and hold many differing opinions and beliefs. That’s one of the things that I love about our HOG chapter. That’s one of the things I love about our country! Honestly if we were all on the same page about everything – life would get a little mundane. That said – I do want to address the tension we find ourselves in as a nation at this point in time.
As we are all aware, our nation has just gone through one of the most contentious elections in our modern history. Both sides of the aisle suggesting that if the other side wins, it would be the end of America. By enlarge, all that accomplished was division. In some cases, relationships torn asunder – even familial relationships and relationships among lifelong friends.
It should not be this way.
I’m not saying that this is happening among our membership. I certainly hope that it is not. But I know that many of us have very strong opinions about these matters. So, let’s make sure that we are doing all that we can to put aside our differences and continue to do the things that we are doing: Ride and Have Fun.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner. If you live in America, have a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and are surrounded by people you love – you have much to be thankful for - regardless of who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
I wanted to leave you with a couple of scriptures that remind us of the importance of peace and unity.
Jesus promised us His peace:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
John 14:27 (ESV)
King David encourages us to live in unity:
“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!”
Psalm 133:1 (ESV)

As we approach this holiday season, let's take a moment to reflect on the importance of cherishing those we hold dear. Life has a way of teaching us valuable lessons, often when we least expect it. Many of us, at some point, come to realize that the time spent with loved ones is what truly matters.
Whether it's through shared laughter, stories, or simply being present with one another, these connections enrich our lives and create lasting memories. The EastSide H.O.G. Chapter embodies this community-driven spirit, encouraging all members, both seasoned riders and newcomers, to embrace the camaraderie that comes from shared experiences.
As we gather during this festive time, let's also remember the significance of "Sheepdog" on safety and mindfulness while riding. Just as we should be present with our loved ones, being mindful on the road is essential. We invite you to join us for more planned group rides and social events in the new year.
Today looking back, I am so thankful for my one sister who truly gave me the brother I never had with a brother-in-law who taught me to ride a motorcycle at 12 years old. Mike turned 80 this year and still rides his MC to work out!
